When I moved to New York as a student I bought a used Nikon and began making photographs. I found the diversity and energy of the city exciting, and I wanted to photograph what I found.  I often visited the city’s museums, and discovered the work of Walker Evans, who photographed America from the late 1920’s until the 70s.  And I saw the work of photographers who had documented their time and place, especially the Parisian Eugene Atget.  Their outstanding work confirmed that my interest in photographing buildings, signs, streets and the “social landscape” was shared by others.  Excited to capture the social life around me, I have been making photographs ever since.
